PleaseThe Houston Chapter training is youth-led, experiential learning that prepares volunteers for their experiences, builds a community of youth and families with shared values, and develops life-skills to help students succeed beyond AMIGOS. SERVICE LEARNING The Houston Chapter incorporates service learning to add depth and first-hand experience to the curriculum. Service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility and strengthen communities. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM INCLUDE: Unparalleled leadership development Cross-cultural awareness and understanding Health and safety training Opportunities to practice Spanish Creating a community of young people with shared values TRAINING CALENDAR Welcome Orientation: January 14th, 2-4 PM at Southside Place Clubhouse (for students and at least one parent/guardian) Training 1: January 28th, 2-5 PM at Southside Place Clubhouse Training 2-3: February 10th-11th, overnight trip to Brazos Bend State Park Training 4: February 25th, 3-5 PM at Southside Place Clubhouse Training 5: March 24th, 3-5 PM at Southside Place Clubhouse Please note, the orientation and all trainings except for the overnight in Brazos Bend State Park will take place at Southside Place Clubhouse (3743 Garnet St, Houston, TX 77005).
